Welcome to our Blog!

On this site we want to open a discussion about advertising in political campaigns. Therefore we should take a look at Obama’s election campaign and contrast it to Merkel’s election campaign. What headings and slogans did they use and what effect did those have on the voters?

Apart from that we want to focus on advertising, special "Obama products" and check if Merkel had ads like that, too.

Please feel welcome to give us your thoughts.

Jones Soda to Feature Presidential Candidates on Cola Labels

The soft drink company Jones Soda launched Campaign Cola 2008 offering limited edition bottles of candidate inspired soda. Each presidential nominee was featured on Jones Pure Cane Cola, one of the newest flavors in the Jones Soda line-up. Participants could cast their virtual vote when purchasing a pack of Hillary Clinton's "Capital Hillary Cola," John McCain's "Pure McCain Cola" or Barack Obama's "Yes We Can Cola."
This was kind of a popularity vote based on sales. Thus, also people of younger age, who were not entitled to vote, had the opportunity to cast their vote for their favourite nominee.
But what was behind it, was of course a marketing strategy by Jones Soda.
Finally, Obama bottles were saled most and it was him who won the popularity battle.
