German Toymaker Launches Barack Obama and Angela Merkel Dolls
The German toymaker Marcel Offermann has recently launched dolls of Obama and Merkel. Thus, Offermann pays tribute to latest political figures to make history. He admits that he is a great fan of Obama and that he is a charismatic man. The doll sold out in only two-and-a-half weeks as demand was very high.
Unfortunately, we do not have any figures about the sale of the Merkel doll. But what do you think? did it sell as well as the Obama doll?
Here, we have two quotations made by a Spiegel-Online journalist who not only gives a short describtion of the dolls about also makes a derisive remark about the Merkel doll:
The Merkel Barbie's hair color and cut are spot on, as is her respectable black wool crepe trouser suit, complete with pink lining and a broach. But that's pretty much where the similarities end. The standard, flat Barbie smile -- which one might think fits the politican stereotype -- helps hardly at all.
Indeed, the Merkel Barbie has curves more likely to be seen in Heidi Klum's show "Germany's Next Top Model" than on the floor of the Bundestag.

The Barack Obama doll is available in a limited edition of 999 and costs €139 ($216). The 36-centimeter (14-inch doll) sports a black suit, complete with a Stars-and-Stripes lapel pin, a white shirt and Obama's trademark sky-blue tie.
